Three Things Challenge #M771
ELOPE
ESCAPE
SLINK

Elope, elope, the lovers cried,
From their families, they’ll surely hide.
Escape into the night so dark,
Slink away to make their mark.
-M.A.D.
Shhh, don’t tell my secret. I think I might elope. I’ll slink down the stairway, out the door and slip into my car as I escape this place that keeps me confined.

My nephew and his girlfriend eloped to Gretna Green as family politics became too much (divorced parents who bickered all the time). They have had three children, and my nephew will be 50 later this year!

We cheered as we’d done something similar, only having nine people, including us, at the registry office. We didn’t tell anyone because it was the second time for both of us, at work someone was getting married the day after us and I didn’t want to take the shine off her, and family politics also came into it. Maybe that’s why my sister hates me as she’d promised her two daughters they would be my bridesmaids! The first she knew of us getting married was my Mum delivering the wedding cake!

I think sometimes it is the best to elope or have it small. There is less stress to it from what I gathered from my friends and family.

We had a brilliant day, us, both sets of parents and our 3 witnesses. We went for a pub meal, then caught the train to go on honeymoon in Amsterdam.

It was a good day, and just how we wanted it to be, personal. I got some teasing when I went back to work though as they wouldn’t let me in, saying that had no-one of that name on the payroll. When I got to my desk, it was decorated with balloons and streamers and a bottle of champagne with 2 crystal glasses as a gift. Going home, they’d also decorated my car with balloons.
