Rubbish is such a great word—it makes even the most annoying stuff sound a little bit funny. Whether you’re talking about nonsense, a pile of clutter, or just a bad day, calling it rubbish somehow makes it easier to handle. Sometimes you just have to laugh and toss the rubbish aside!

Philosophy was tough for me in college because it always felt like there were a hundred different answers to every question—and none of them were quite right! I’d leave class with my head spinning, wondering if I even knew what a chair was anymore. It was a real mental workout, for sure.

Director David Lynch, born on January 20th, 1946, attended the inauguration of John F Kennedy in 1961 when he was fifteen. Along with hundreds of other Boy Scouts. Lynch saw Kennedy, along with outgoing President Dwight D. Eisenhower and future presidents Richard Nixon and Lyndon B. Johnson, as their limos drove by. “I realized I saw four consecutive presidents in that short amount of time, 10 inches from my face,” he told Scouting magazine in 2017.

It’s estimated that more than 300,00+ people attended the two-day event, but that probably wasn’t because of some latent love for sports entertainment in the isolated nation. As professional wrestler Scott Norton told Sports Illustrated, his limo driver clued in the American on what made the event so popular: attendance was mandatory.

Mindfulness isn’t about sitting cross-legged for hours or clearing your mind of every thought. It’s simply about being present—really noticing your coffee in the morning, tuning in to your breath when things feel overwhelming, or savoring a good laugh. Tiny pauses like these can make your day feel lighter and more connected. I think it is more complicated than it sounds, but I keep giving it a shot.

Patience is one of my strongest traits—most days, I’m the person who can wait in a long line without complaint or listen quietly while someone shares a story I’ve already heard. I take pride in keeping calm and letting things unfold in their own time.
But I’ll admit: there are moments when impatience gets the best of me. When it comes to waiting for a package, I’ve been excited about, or sitting through slow-loading technology, my patience can wear thin.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Here are some of my foundations for perfect happiness. The first is having moments of presence, like when I can really enjoy a cup of tea and taste it fully. I also find happiness in mindfully taking a walk, where I pay attention to the colors and textures around me, noticing how the leaves change or feeling the roughness of a tree bark.
Another key part of my happiness is tapping into my creative flow. Whether I’m writing a poem, drawing, or painting, these activities make me feel alive and joyful. When I’m in that creative zone, I feel a deep sense of happiness and contentment. Being able to express myself through art is truly a special part of my life.
