When there’s a second new moon in a single calendar month, it’s often referred to as a black moon. It’s not an official astronomical term, though, and its definitions vary. Sometimes, it’s used to describe a third new moon in a season that usually has 2 new moons, or even the absence of a new or full moon in February.
