Let’s talk about the most infuriating trope in all of books and movies , the one that makes me want to pause the story, walk into the scene, and hand the characters a snack and a therapist.
The “We Could Solve This Entire Plot With One Normal Conversation” trope.
You know it. Two characters spend 300 pages or a whole movie stomping around, whisper‑yelling “you don’t understand,” dramatically turning away, or brooding in a corner like Victorian houseplants. Meanwhile, the audience is sitting there like:
Please. I beg. Use your words.
Instead of communicating like functional humans, they choose chaos. They choose suffering. They choose to let the plot unravel like a cheap sweater caught on a nail.
And honestly? It’s the undefeated champion of making readers feral.
