Social Anxiety

Originally posted on 4/30/24 here

Out and about, the world is alive
But inside my mind, I struggle to survive
The bustling streets, the crowded places
Trigger my anxiety, tying me in laces

I long to join in, to be a part
But fear grips me, tearing me apart
The thought of judgment, the fear of rejection
Keeps me locked in my own self-protection

I watch from afar, wishing I could be
A part of the laughter, the joy, the glee
But my mind plays tricks, telling me lies
That I’m not good enough, that I should hide

So I retreat back into my shell
Where it’s safe and quiet, away from the swell
Of people and noise, the chaos of life
Where my social anxiety cuts like a knife

But deep down inside, I know it’s not true
That I am worthy, just like you
So I’ll take a deep breath, and step out once more
Facing my fears, opening the door

To a world of possibilities, of connections and love
Where my social anxiety can’t hold me above
I’ll break free from its grip, and live my life
Out and about, without fear or strife.

A Gift of Friendship

Mary received a special gift
In hopes of lifting her spirits,
For she had been feeling down,
And her friends wanted to cheer her up.

Disheveled Disorder !

There once was a lad from the border,
Who dreamed of becoming a hoarder.
With treasures galore,
He’d smile and adore,
But his house was a disheveled disorder!

Night of the Whispers

In the quiet of the night, a soft disturbance,
Whispers of the wind bring a sense of verve,
Stars flicker gently, sharing their persistence,
As the world breathes deeply, in calm reserve.

Leaves rustle softly, a drumming heart’s tune,
Echoes of the past in the shadows dance,
Yet in this stillness, beneath the pale moon,
There lies a beauty in every chance.

Embrace the disturbances that stir your soul,
For in every ripple, life finds its role.

Finding My Path

Scattered thoughts swirl in my mind,
A tangled web, hard to unwind.
Life feels challenging, a constant race,
But I’ll find my path, I’ll find my place.

One step at a time, I’ll learn to see,
With focus and patience, I’ll set my mind free.
Though chaos may reign and shadows may play,
I’ll gather my thoughts and find my own way.

A Hopeful Journey

In the morning light so bright,
I wish you good luck, hold on tight.
With every step, face your fears,
Let joy replace all your tears.

The road may twist, the path may bend,
But brave hearts always find a friend.
So take a breath, let hope spark,
And carry on, you’ll leave your mark.

Whispers of Friendship

In the quiet corners of my mind,
I trace our laughter, sweet and unconfined.
Days painted bright with shared delight,
But now the colors fade into the night.

Was it a word, or a glance unseen?
Did I cross a line, break what had been?
I wonder if echoes of our joy still remain,
Or if silence now holds what once was plain.

The memories dance like shadows in the light,
Each cherished moment, now just out of sight.
I yearn for the stories in whispers we’d share,
The dreams we painted, a canvas laid bare.

If I stumbled along the path we once tread,
I’d give anything to turn back instead.
To walk by your side, feel the warmth of your smile,
To hold on to friendship, even just for a while.

So here’s to the laughter that lingered so long,
To the music of friendship, our unbroken song.
If you find it within, just a flicker, a spark,
Know I’m here waiting, through light and through dark.

Embracing the Mush

My brain feels soft, a mushy heap,
Thoughts all jumbled, not a peep.
Ideas slip like grains of sand,
I reach for thoughts, but they won’t stand.

Once so bright with spark and flare,
Now they float like leaves in air.
A foggy cloud, a heavy weight,
Every simple task feels like fate.

Words get tangled, lost in space,
I search for them, but can’t keep pace.
It’s hard to focus, hard to think,
Just like a drink that’s gone to sink.

But in this mush, a calm does creep,
A cozy blanket, soft and deep.
Though thoughts may sway, and focus drift,
I find some peace, a little gift.

So here I sit, with brain a mess,
Embracing chaos, I must confess.
Through all the mush, I’ll take my time,
And find the sense in this silly rhyme.

Breaking Free

Why am I so shy,
Always have been,
Need to socialize with others,
But it’s hard to begin.

I watch from afar,
As friends laugh and play,
Wishing I could join,
But my words fade away.

A smile, a wave,
That’s a start, I know,
Step by step I’ll try,
To let my true self show.

In time I might find,
A way to break free,
To share my own laughter,
And just be me.

Here’s mine

In twilight’s glow, her dreams debut,
A canvas whispered, colors anew.
With trembling heart, she boldly takes the stage,
Each note a story, a turning page.
Hope dances bright, as fears gently subdue.

Yearning for the Stars’ Repose

Sleep, how I have missed you so,
You have ventured away,
With no reason why,
Like shadows at the end of day.

The nights stretch on, an endless tide,
Whispers of dreams that fade and hide.
In twilight’s arms, I long to lay,
To chase the worries of the day.

Yet here I wander, eyes awake,
In silence filled with thoughts that ache.
Oh, sweet embrace, come back, I plead,
For in your depths, my soul is freed.

Bring the comfort of your soft retreat,
Where time unwinds, and hearts can meet.
So, guide me gently, let me find,
The solace only you can bind.

In slumber’s hold, my hurt will cease,
As dreams weave stories, bringing peace.
So, I await, with hopeful sigh,
For you, dear Sleep, to draw nigh.

The Keeper of Treasures

An elastic bag
Holding items
Safely tucked inside,
Treasures and snacks,
With nothing to hide.

It stretches and bends,
Embracing with care,
A keeper of memories,
Always ready to share.

Poetry, Three Things Challenge

Nostalgic Play

Your three words today are:
CATCH
THROW
HURL

The joy of games,
When I was younger,
I’d throw, catch, and hurl a ball
With my relatives,
A game we created
When we gathered together.
Oh, how I miss those days;
They feel like long past dreams.
I sit here now,
Remembering those good times,
Each memory a warm embrace.

The Echoes of Childhood

Your words are:
play, toy, companion, silence, hint, solitary, box, ring, adult, skill, young, knack.

In a box of memories, a toy lies in wait,
A companion from youth, a hint of fate.
In silence, it whispers of laughter and play,
A skill and a knack for the simple, brightening the day.

A solitary ring shines with stories untold,
Echoes of joy from the brave and the bold.
Though time may have passed as we’ve grown into young adults,
The play of our childhood is life’s sweetest song.
