Alice blue, a shade of pale Azure that sparked a fashion sensation in the early 20th century, and was named after Theodore Roosevelt’s daughter, Alice Lee Roosevelt Longworth. Her eyes were set to match the shade. The color even made it to Broadway in the 1919 musical Irene, featuring a song called “Alice Blue Gown.”
Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
I overuse the soft, peacekeeping phrases — “it’s fine,” “no worries,” “I don’t mind,” “sorry.” They slip out before I even think about them, tiny verbal bandages meant to keep everything smooth and easy. I also lean on fillers like “I mean” and “honestly” when I’m thinking out loud. Together, they paint a picture of someone trying to be gentle with the world, even when the world isn’t always gentle back.

I tried to hook up
With a moment of calm today—
It flirted, then fled.
Embracing yourself
Guide you through tough times ahead.
You can’t stop yourself.
Step by step, you’ll find your way—
Rooted, steady, moving on.
As I think and tinker away,
I leave a trail of quiet lines behind—
soft echoes of the moments
my mind wandered farther than my hands.
Each thought becomes a footprint,
each idea a small lantern dropped
for whoever might follow
the winding path I made.
And though the work is never finished,
the trail is proof I was here—
thinking, tinkering,
shaping something out of the unseen.
Many colours wait
Ready for use, on a plate
There is no debate
Wanting to be a showpiece

A molar strong, firm
Chewing through tough, fibrous food
Incisor sharp, keen
Biting into life’s delights
Teeth, nature’s tools, serve us well
The essence of you lives inside me

Talons grab at me

What of me is left?
How much more can I give, till

Shindigs causing alarm within you
Opening up to others is challenging
Conversational talk makes you think they are judging
Introductions are the worst, where to go from there
Allowing yourself to breathe becomes the first step
Letting the moment unfold without pressure
Inviting small courage to sit beside the fear
Zoning out less as you ground yourself again
Eventually realizing connection doesn’t have to hurt
